Latest: Diamanti OFFER, Barca’s Traoré £7m & Bournemouth Warm-Up. #avfc

All the latest news and rumour concerning all things Aston Villa – will the activity in the transfer market ever end?

Villa have been linked to 32 year old Alessandro Diamanti.  The Italian is currently enjoying a little earner contracted to a club side out in China, but did play in Serie A alongside Micah Richards at Fiorentina last season as part of a loan deal.

Described as a creative and tricky player, the midfielder seems awfully similar in terms of attributes to Joe Cole, who has himself been tidy in pre-season.  It’s understood that Villa and Watford have put forward offers for Diamanti’s services.  Watch this space.

Traoré:  There is some uncertainty around media reports linking Villa, Liverpool, Everton, Southampton and Stoke to the signing on 19 year old Barcelona winger at various junctures across the summer.  If the latest reports are to be believed, both Villa and Liverpool have matched the £7 million pound valuation set by the Catalan giants.

A sticking point to any deal for Liverpool appears to be Barcelona’s expectation that they would retain a buy back option on the player.  Villa will face stiff competition from Stoke who will attempt to lure the youngster into a squad that already features three former Barcelona players.

With the new season now looming, Villa’s first test, away at newly promoted Bournemouth looms ever closer.  There is a nervous sense of anticipation amongst supporters, the usual worries, many new faces in the squad & a new ground to tick off in the Premier League era.

The media already appears to have marked Villa as possibly a surprise package of the season, and whilst that’s to be welcome, what progress we have made in signings must translate into results on the pitch.

Bournemouth are certainly the unknown quantity, to be respected, but hopefully Villa will go there with a single mindedness.  Indeed, there should, hopefully, be enough new impetus around Villa’s eleven eager to impress and show their quality.  Roll on Saturday.  I cannot wait.
