County have had an similarly mixed start to their season in League Two, having won their opener to Huddersfield, before slipping to defeat at home to Mansfield last weekend.

The game may take on additional interest given that Jack Grealish enjoyed a warm and successful loan spell with County last year.  Grealish, who turned out for the development squads win at Derby last night in his return from injury, is likely to feature as Villa look to inject some creativity into the mix.

Villa defeat Derby (U21)

Adama Traore, newly signed from Barcelona, terrorised Derby’s under 21 set up in a development game that featured Grealish, Spanish magician Carles-Gil & …Joe Bennett.

Adama, described as a “menace” by Derby’s website, impressed throughout and combined well with both Gil and Grealish.  Grealish, who is now recovered from injury, settled the tie with a strike on the half hour mark.

The threesome, all seeking to attain match fitness, are essential to Villa’s frontline getting the delivery that it desperately needs.

Lescott to sign contract extension

The 33 year old Albion centre half is set to sign a new deal after interest from Villa.

For me, he is the wrong side of 30 and has shown indifferent form for our lessor neighbours.  Unless the terms are right, there are certainly better, younger, sharper options available on the open market.

Most tellingly, Lescott was benched after a mauling at Man City for West Brom’s opener…his ship has sailed.  Let’s look elsewhere.
