Aston Villa Transfer News: Champions League & PL Winning Belgian Linked

With Villa’s Brazilian striker Wesley likely to be sidelined when the Premier League resumes on the 12th of September and Samatta failing to set the world alight, Dean Smith is in the market for reinforcements.

Villa have already been linked to former Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, but now our attentions have reportedly turned to Liverpool striker Divock Origi.

The Champions League winner has consistently found himself a peripheral figure, with Jurgen Klopp spoiled for choice in terms of consistent quality up-front.

Whilst the Belgian Premier League winner notched 44 appearances last term, the fact is that many of these were from the bench.

Villa could offer the international striker regular game-time, crucial if he is to impress ahead of next summers European Championships.  The likelihood given our impotency in-front of goal via our strikers, Origi could find himself entrusted to lead the line.

Origi also fits the bills for Villa’s intent to recruit players younger than 28, being aged just 25.  Additionally, despite getting a reputation for being a bit part player for Liverpool, he knows where the net is, scoring 26 times.

Villa’s hierarchy will need to act swiftly though if interested, with Wolves known to be admirers after attempting to land the striker in January.  It’s also not known what fee Liverpool would expect for a man they paid £10 million for in 2014.
