Two time European Champions you say?  There are worse places to be spending an afternoon than the City Ground, home of Nottingham Forest.

Match Preview:

In brief, it’s always hard to predict a friendly.  Villa have been a mixed bag in pre-season, but the signs are there that things are starting to come together.  After the “training” matches in Portugal produced little or nothing of note, run outs at Swindon, Walsall and Wolves have raised an eyebrow.

The draw midweek at Wolves saw Libor Kozak netting twice – and the big Czech striker – out for so long after a horrendous leg break – will likely be looking to build on both his fitness and match sharpness.

Whilst the team(s) will obviously be a mixture of first team and development squad players, Villa may well use this as an opportunity to field new signings.  Gabby Agbonlahor is a possible doubt having suffered a knock against Wolves.  Jack Grealish may also feature having come through a reserve fixture against Tamworth.

For me, Forest is a much missed away day…so it’s great to have it on the calendar, albeit as a friendly.

Pubs:

It can be difficult to find pubs very close to the ground that will accept away fans.  However, it’s not nearly as hard as Wolverhampton.  The City ground has nearby pubs which will accept on first come, first serve or take a small door fee.

A couple of picks:

The Stratford Haven (Stratford Road, Nottingham, NG2 6BA).  If arriving by train check out the Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem (Castle Road, NG1 6AD).  You can find further options on the ‘NFFC Blog’.

Find The City Ground:

Satnav:  The City Ground, Nottingham Fores, tPavilion Rd, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2 5FJ.
