Jed Steer, probably similarly to Tommy Elphick, likely cannot believe the last few days.
After starting the season as number 1 for Villa in the opening day victory over Hull, Steer found himself replaced by Orjan Nyland, whilst Villa also took the step of loaning in Spanish ‘keeper Andre Morriera.
Jed Steer, who has been largely injured himself or on loan during his time at Villa Park, promptly found himself shipped out to Charlton.
Villa, who have looked far from assured with Orjan Nyland between the sticks, have actively avoided using either of the available alternatives in Mark Bunn or Andre Morreira.
Thus, Dean Smith took steps to rectify this, purchasing Lovre Kalinic. The Croatian international is, however, unavailable until on or after January 2nd 2019.
This was no immediate problem, until Orjan Nyland sustained a long term injury in training after the Preston draw, forcing Villa to scramble to recall Steer.
Steer has been back at Villa Park less than 24 hours, but is expected to go straight into the Villa team.
Thereafter the 26 year old will battle Kalinic for the number 1 spot.
Steer has made just nine appearances for Villa since joining in 2013 from Norwich, but has turned out twenty times for Charlton this term.
