Aston Villa Transfer News: AC Milan Midfield Target A Free Agent

Jeff Hendrick Aston Villa

A number of Premier League sides are linked with the now free agent Jeff Hendrick.

The 54 time capped Irish international had caught the eye of many as he impressed both representing his country but also featuring prominently for Burnley in recent years.

Controversially, Hendrick rejected the offer of a new deal for The Clarets and saw his deal expire in June 2020.  This came despite Burnley offering new terms in October 2019 as his existing deal ran down.

The 28 year old was holding out for a dream move to Serie A, with Italian giants AC Milan having been anticipated to complete a deal for the midfielder.

However, due to the impact of Coronavirus on transfer dealings across Europe (and the wider footballing world) the move to switch to the San Siro was put on ice.  It would have made him just the third Irish international to play in Italy’s top flight after Liam Brady and former Villa loanee Robbie Keane.  There were also outside rumours that suggested that Roma were monitoring his availability, but their interest also appears to have cooled also.

The Dubliner, who has spent 4 years at Turf Moor, has been playing in the right of a midfield four or behind a loan striker.  He has also featured as part of a midfield three, on the left for Ireland, underlining Hendrick’s versatility.

It has been reported in the North East press that the player has been offered to both Villa and Newcastle United:
