Two clubs that went to Wembley last season. Not only is that a sentence never uttered (Walsall’s first visit in 127 years)…but it is remarkable that Villa managed it twice. Let’s not talk about the final…
Friendly
This is a poignant friendly for many fans these days. It marks the return to local soil & is in our own back yard. Walsall are an old football club, to be respected & have been kind enough to lend their turf to many a Villa youth squad over the years. Often played with fans watching in short sleeves, enjoying warm beer…it’s a grand day out.
It also makes for a fine friendly full of banter in the heart of the Black Country.
Local Pubs:
Walsall are an amicable bunch but don’t take the Michael. Drink your fill, but never drag our club to the gutter. This fixture may also likely feature a tribute to victims of the recent Tunisian shooting.
Villa Underground recommendation;
A decent boozer is the King George V.
A large three roomed pub with a friendly atmosphere. Built in 1936, “The George” has a mainly local clientele & is normally a “home pub”. You will find microbrewery guest beers available as well as the usuals & it’s handy for the Bescot with away fans welcome. They also have an in house chef knocking out curry at great prices. It’s a big old fashioned cracking boozer. Just don’t take the p…the landlord’s a big lad.

A stagger across the road and you can find a large Morrisons supermarket if you feel the need to load up on……….groceries? …
Where is Bescot Stadium?
Where to park for Bescot Stadium?
Avoid any parking charges and park your car in Dickinson Drive, a large estate a short walk from the ground. There is also a nearby large Morrisons supermarket, but you take a chance here on the traffic wardens doing their job. Both have easy access back to the M6, but be aware that the Southbound slip road is closed. Head towards junction 7 to rejoin the M6. Northbound is unaffected.
