The latest transfer news & rumour from Villa Park:

Ahmed Elmohamady

The Hull City midfielder has left The Tigers’ pre-season tour and looks set to complete a £1 million switch to join up with former boss Steve Bruce.

The Egyptian international will now undergo a medical after Villa activated the valuation release clause in his contact.

Key Facts:

  • Winger/Wing-back.
  • Aged 29
  • Reported Fee = £1 million
  • Played under Bruce at Hull & Sunderland.
  • Joined Hull for £2m in 2013.
  • 2 promotions with Hull from Championship.
  • Egypt International (79 Caps)
  • Runner up in ACON in February 2017
  • FA Cup runner up in 2014

Tom Lawrence

The Leicester City winger is rumoured to be a back-up option for Bruce if any deal for Ahmed Elmohamady from Hull City should fail to materialise.

Equally, Villa are feasibly in the market for more strength in depth out wide with Albert Adomah (out for at least the next 2 weeks of pre-season) and Andre Green amongst few options.

Villa face competition for the midfielder, with Brighton, Derby, Sunderland and Newcastle all interest parties.

Any fee is believed to be in the region of £7 million.

Tommy Elphick

The disappointing centre half, signed under the guise of rejuvenating and adding leadership qualities to Villa’s back line in 2016 looks set to depart.

Birmingham City (yes, them) are reportedly to be primed to take him off Villa’s books – with Leeds United emerging as an interested party.

Whilst Elphick was a central figure in the successful Bournemouth promotion of 2014/15, his qualities appeared somewhat faded as the pace and movement of many Championship attacks saw him undone.

It’s easy to see why he might appeal to other Championship clubs, but with Terry, Chester & Baker, Elphick would easily be the fourth choice option.

The death knell to his Villa career likely came when it became clear that centre midfielder Mile Jedinak was preferred over him in the closing stages of the 2016/17 season.

  1. So we are possibly in for a winger from Leicester for £7m who cannot get in their team because he is being kept out by a winger we sold them for half that price.???
    Sound about right that.

    1. I think we’re third favourite by the bookies reckoning – £7 million seems steep – and with Elmohamady confirmed today it looks less likely we’d pursue this deal.
