As Villa get set for ‘Survival Sunday’, that certainly doesn’t mean that the transfer news and rumour stops.

Here are the latest stories concerning potential comings and goings at B6:

JOHN SWIFT

The Reading midfielder has been attracting a lot of interest after a string of top performances in The Championship.

Villa are reported to be monitoring Swift’s availability as the 25 year old has impressed, contributing 11 assists for The Royals during the 2019 / 2020 campaign.

Swift has been at Reading since 2016, joining as a free agent having been released from Chelsea’s books.

Aside from Villa keeping tabs, recently promoted Leeds and Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United have been heavily linked.

The former England Under-21 international, has also scored 21 times from midfield in his four seasons at the club but is untested in the top flight.

TYRONE MINGS

Mings has been subject to increasing speculation about his future as Villa flirt perilously with relegation.

Whilst the England international was pivotal to Villa’s promotion campaign last season, he hasn’t had everything his own way whilst in the top flight.  The reasons for this aren’t a huge drop off in form, rather a Villa defence that’s been unsettled around him but an occasional lapse in concentration too.

Mings has recently been in markedly improved form, with strong displays against Crystal Palace (2-0), Everton (1-1) and most impressively against Arsenal (1-0).

It’s no surprise with the vultures circling in recent weeks that links have started to emerge.  In the last fortnight there have been whispers about interest from both Manchester United and Everton, although the latter was extremely tenuous.

The latest rumour is equally as dubious, with a move linking Mings with a £30m transfer to Spurs simply coming off the back of remarks by former Villa striker Darren Bent.

Whilst Tottenham are conceivably in the market for defensive reinforcements owing to their leaky defence, Mings’ name appears largely to have been plucked from thin air.  In any event, if Villa escape relegation, the club would likely resist any advances for the £26.5 million signing from Bournemouth with him representing a key member of the first team.
