The rumour mill has been swirling for weeks, speculating about a potential return for Axel Tuanzebe to Villa Park.
Prior to the friendly fixture against newly promoted Italian side Salernitana, Villa confirmed that Tuanzebe is back at B6 for the 2021/2022 campaign.
Still just 23 years of age, Tuanzebe was a very important part of Villa’s successful Championship promotion back to the top flight in 2019.
Naturally after such a mature and consistent set of displays during his original loan stay, Tuanzebe returned to his parent club with ambitions to break into the first team of Manchester United.
Whilst life hasn’t been straightforward at United as they attempt to re-fashion themselves under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Tuanzebe remains highly regarded, as evidenced by the club extending his contract until 2023 (with a further year option).
WELCOME BACK
Tuanzebe is a welcome quality addition to a squad that features a much improved backline to the one he left behind. He brings additional versatility as a right footer who can play right-back or right centre-back, complimenting the left sided cover offered by the quietly assured Kortney Hause.
For Tuanzebe, it offers the opportunity for valuable game-time after an injury stricken last season. For Villa, we regain a familiar face who can hopefully pick up where he left off.
