Villa already have defender Bjorn Engels out through injury and must now contend with Matt Targett being unavailable.
Targett pulled up in the opening minutes of the defeat to Wolves (0-1), clutching his hamstring.
Despite appearing in visible discomfort and having received lengthy treatment on the pitch, it was a surprise to see the full-back attempt to continue.
This was something that The Villa Underground called inexplicable at the time, with the defender quickly breaking down and being withdrawn just a few minutes later.
Targett, a hefty £11.5m signing from Southampton last summer has struggled with hamstring injuries on two previous occasions already this term. Despite this, he’s still managed to make a sizeable 28 appearances to date.
This latest injury though is reportedly going to keep the 24 year old out for up to 3 weeks.
This would see him missing out on key relegation clashes against Liverpool, Man Utd, Palace and Everton.
The defender has had mixed form since his move from the south coast, but there have been highs such as a last gasp goal against Brighton and rumours that Chelsea are monitoring his progress.
Targett was replaced by Neil Taylor at Villa Park, with the Welsh international having played second fiddle since his arrival.
If Guilbert is available, Smith might opt to move Konsa back to centre-half, with Kortney Hause comfortable at left back. If not, expect to see Taylor deputise.
