Aston Villa Transfer Rumour: Villa Tempt Finnish International With Premier League Football

Teemu Pukki

Villa continue to be active and connected to a wide range of transfer targets, having already added Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez and Bertrand Traore to the squad.

With Dean Smith having indicated that his summer shopping list isn’t yet complete, we await news on who will arrive next to strengthen the side. It’s anticipated that Villa are looking to add both a midfielder and a striker before deadline day.

The driver for this comes after Ally Samatta ended a brief stint at Villa Park, switching to Turkish side Fenerbahce initially on loan (with a view to a permanent deal).

This makes an attacking replacement a priority, but with Anwar El Ghazi and Marvellous Nakamba’s future also uncertain, we could yet see a midfield replacement come through the Villa Park revolving door too.

Norwich striker Teemu Pukki is the latest in a long list of striker’s linked to Villa throughout this short summer transfer window.

The Finland international striker caught the eye during The Canaries promotion alongside Villa in 2019, but struggled as Norwich did little to strengthen ahead of their ill-fated Premier League campaign.

Villa, Leeds, Wolves, Sheffield United and West Brom have all approached Norwich, but it’s reported that the 30 year old will sit tight on his decision until January. Villa, of course, are unlikely to wait that long.

Pukki netted 11 times last term, and although clubs are being held off in their attempts to lure him away from Carrow Road, money talks, as does the lure of Premier League football.

Norwich will naturally want to retain Pukki, not only because of his almost 1 in 2 goal to game ratio, but also with the window closing shortly, their opportunity to replace him is therefore limited.

For Villa, Pukki would represent a short term fix to provide a supporting cast member for record signing Ollie Watkins. However, with time of the essence and the striker’s reluctance to move on, Smith will in all probability have to look elsewhere.
