It has been revealed that Villa will host West Brom for a ‘friendly’ fixture this Saturday (TBC: 6th June).
Whilst the kick off time is to be confirmed, the venue is expected to be Villa Park, to enable the club to test social distancing requirements in addition to building both teams’ fitness levels.
Both sides will be eager to progress to a more competitive practice/friendly fixture, given that players have only recently returned to full contact training after isolated training sessions previously.
Albion are vying for promotion back to the Premier League, whilst Villa are urgently needing to escape the threat of relegation.
The format of the game is predicted to be non-conventional, with two hour long games being suggested, enabling both clubs to field two seperate teams.
As EPL/EFL match officials have not yet been Covid cleared, the game will presumably be overseen by members of both clubs’ coaching staff.
Whilst the Albon aren’t back in action until the 20th of June, Villa face an accelerated return to competitive action due to the need to make up a game in hand on the rest of the Premier League.
Villa are set to resume on the evening of 17th June in a behind closed doors game at Villa Park against the Blades.
