Villa’s attempts to lure rising Danish star Nicolai Boilesen appear to be in vain. Shay Given has a agreed a two year deal with Stoke. The veteran Irish ‘keeper has always been likeable figure – but his departure removes a huge burden from the Villa wage-bill in the final year of his deal. Given, who was erratic in his early appearances, ultimately impressed in the run in last season, culminating in the Brad Guzan being unceremoniously dropped. However, Given made just 37 appearances in 4 years at Villa, which for all his like-able qualities, tells the whole story.
