Well…there are few weekends outside of the season that contain such drama.  Unless, of course, you support Aston Villa.  How we love our football club…

In the first scare of the weekend….Fabian Delph was seemingly gone.  Packed his bags, said his goodbyes and driving northbound.  And then…something happened.  Read exactly why he changed his mind in this dedicated article.

Jordan Amavi, who Villa have been trailing all summer is stalling on a deal worth 11 million Euros and that would triple his salary.  It appears he is holding out for a bid from rivals, possibly Arsenal, as he looks to step up his promising career.  However, as he delays on the Villa deal, it remains to be seen if other parties will stump up the cash put on the table by AVFC already.

Villa’s attempts to lure rising Danish star Nicolai Boilesen appear to be in vain.  A £1.5 million offer was refused for the 23 year old Ajax captain – and now comes the strong suggestion that even a £10 million bid would be rejected.  Whilst that remains to be seen, there appears some difficulty luring the full back from domestic Dutch honours to our side which in recent years has…admittedly…struggled.

Shay Given has a agreed a two year deal with Stoke.  The veteran Irish ‘keeper has always been likeable figure – but his departure removes a huge burden from the Villa wage-bill in the final year of his deal.  Given, who was erratic in his early appearances, ultimately impressed in the run in last season, culminating in the Brad Guzan being unceremoniously dropped.  However, Given made just 37 appearances in 4 years at Villa, which for all his like-able qualities, tells the whole story.

Oh yes…and we lost to Fulham in a friendly…but Libor Kozak scored. Huzzah!
