We are officially in that pre-season lull – but there are still things developing at B6. The squad returns to training Monday, next seasons kit launch is on the horizon and we will soon be into friendlies!
And then there’s the transfer news and rumour;

Villa have been reported as having submitted at significant bid for Lilli midfielder,
Idrissa Gueye, believed to be in the region of £9 million pounds. Whilst it is believed Gueye would prefer a stay in France, the lure of the Premier League may be too great. If confirmed, it would be an impressive coup and a statement in itself given the fee.
In a surprise development, Villa are suddenly linked to Leicester’s Esteban Cambiasso. Cambiasso certainly impressed and oozes quality – however – it would be a deviation from Sherwood’s policy of acquiring exciting youth. With that said, the experience and composure a player of Cambiasso’s stature would bring to a dressing room needs no explanation. Whilst it might not see us far into the future, the addition of the Argentine certainly wouldn’t hurt.
Another day, another link to a fullback. The local press is reporting that we are closely watching Ludwig Augustinsson a Swedish under 21 international, currently plying his trade at FC Copenhagen. Villa appear to be well and truly scouring the continent for options in the fullback positions, keeping tabs on various targets including; Nicolai Boileson & Jazz Richards. Boileson, following Villa’s bids missed training today…watch this space.

It is becoming a daily ritual navigating the dross written about where Christian Benteke is likely to end up. This has been topped by many media outlets running with improbable certainty that the huge Belgian will join Liverpool imminently.
As stated previously, I just do not see it. Liverpool as a massive club, a huge name, but they are a fading, waning star. I’ll repeat – massive club yes, but completely lost at the moment. Benteke; he craves European football, titles – which no one at Villa would begrudge him owing to his efforts to keep us in the division for 3 seasons. He is destined for greater things than Anfield.
