Villa are pulling out all of the stops to secure Asmir Begovic from Stoke, which may lead to Brad Guzan departing the club. Brad struggled badly for form last season and had to warm the bench after falling behind veteran Shay Given in the pecking order. This would put the American stopper under no illusions that not only was he being replaced, but the reality that he would become a squad ‘keeper. Indeed, Jed Steer is now knocking at the door following succesful loans spells since joining the club & making his first Premier League start on the final day of last season.

Further to yesterday’s worrying development with regards to Fabian Delph, The Telegraph are reporting that he will join Manchester CIty in an astonishingly low £8m pound deal. This is an extremely concerning development if accurate and would represent an absolute hammer blow as the club approaches pre-season training. Much will be written, debated & concluded depending upon how the next few days pan out. To lose Delph, particularly given the statements made around his contract renewal, would be a very bitter pill to swallow.
This perhaps leads to the sudden link to 24 year old Feyenoord captain Jordy Clasie in a reported £7 million pound bid. Reports also link Southampton with the Dutchman, although reported fees quoted appear to be higher, suggesting Villa may be some way from a meeting of the minds on this transfer.

Following the link to Swansea loanee Tom Carroll, Villa have emerged as candidates to sign Kyle Bartley. The centre half has made just 18 appearances since he was signed under the Brendan Rodgers regime & is considered the fourth choice at the club. It’s a surprise link to someone who is very much off the radar but would face some competition from another interested party in the shape of West Ham United.
