Villa have moved to bolster defensive options with the signing of free agent Victor Lindelof.
The 31-year-old Swedish international captain joins on a free transfer following his release from Manchester United at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. Lindelof spent eight seasons at Old Trafford, chalking up 284 appearances and securing both FA & League Cup winners’ medals. Before that, he spent five seasons at Portuguese giants Benfica.
The free agent has signed a 2-year contract at Villa Park and represents an experienced addition to the squad. With 71 caps for Sweden, Emery will be mindful of our limited options with a busy fixture list of domestic and Europa League football. Whilst Konsa is generally a steady figure, Mings’ knees and Pau Torres’ indifferent form and fitness underlined the need for suitable cover.
Villa secured Lindelof’s signature despite interest from both Everton and Fiorentina.
