Watch: 5 great Aston Villa games from 5 grim years.

It has been a difficult few seasons at Villa Park, but in a break from the discomfort, let’s enjoy five great games over the period…

2015

Aston Villa (2) v (1) Liverpool – FA Cup Semi Final 2015.

In the brief Sherwood era, this marked a high point.  A superb performance, particularly from two players who were soon to depart the club.  A memorable day for the performance also of Jack Grealish, a vocal Villa following & a result that promised so much more…

2014

Aston Villa (1) v (0) Chelsea – FA Premier League 2014

A vital win in March as Villa clung to safety.  Either a fantastic flick or jammy goal, but Delph settled it…a battling display.

Arsenal (1) v (3) Aston Villa – FA Premier League 2013

An unexpected dominant victory on the opening day of the 2013/14 season set the pulse racing.  Had Lambert found the winning formula?  Was Antonio Luna (remember him?) the signing of the century? …(A firm ‘No’ to both by the way).

2012

Liverpool (1) v (3) Aston Villa – FA Premier League

Christian Benteke produced a rampant display in an absolute demolition at Anfield in December 2012, scoring twice and providing an assist to Andi Wiemann.  A dominant display & welcome result at the time.  The Belgian international perhaps commanded much of his eventual transfer fee on this performance alone.

Chelsea (1) v (3) Aston Villa

Stephen Ireland (yes, him) played a blinder during a shock and awe performance at Stamford Bridge in the early part of the 2011/2012 season.  Gabby could have had a brace, Petrov was on the scoresheet and Bent scrambled home the 3rd.  Grand.

Happy Sunday.  Up The Villa.
