Aston Villa Player Ratings – Villa 3-0 Middlesbrough – Man Of The Match: Glenn Whelan

Summary Report

Villa swept aside a dour Tony Pulis side with consummate ease in torrid conditions at Villa Park.

Seeking a fourth straight win, Villa were on the offensive from the off.  This was rewarded when Anwar El Ghazi, lively all afternoon, smartly finished to give us the lead.

John McGinn, who has been in supreme form since his return from suspension, soon doubled the lead, rattling a low effort beyond the visitors hapless keeper.

Villa resumed their dominance after the break, with Boro having nothing to counter our excellent movement and possession.

The defence look resolute, with Mings & Hause both solid, whilst both fullbacks look increasingly assured for their presence.

Glenn Whelan put in another outstanding performance, with countless interceptions and measured passes across the 90 minutes.  The Irishman put in a display that showed just why he’s been recalled into the international set-up.

Villa sealed the points late on, with Adomah nipping in to finish a spilled ball.

The win lifts us into the Play-Offs and affords us the opportunity to reflect & recuperate as the international break begins.
