ABRAHAM TO LEIPZIG?
Villa’s loan striker remains hot property, continuing his goalscoring exploits for Dean Smith in the Championship, whilst turning heads outside of it.
It’s not so long ago that Villa had to hope that Chelsea and Abraham could withstand the advances of suitors, including our local neighbours Wolves, during the January transfer window.
The latest interested party are Germany’s “most-hated” football team, RB Leipzig.
Currently 3rd in the Bundesliga, the Red Bull owned outfit didn’t even exist until 2009. With major financial backing, they made a rapid five division ascent in just seven seasons.
They haven’t had it all their own way lately however.
Leipzig have been rocked by the news that their star striker Timo Werner has apparently negotiated a deal to join Bayern Munich. It appears that the 23 year old will force through a deal regardless, with Liverpool also reportedly alerted to his availability. Jurgen Klopp is known to be a long time admirer.
Leipzig are putting on a brave face, but will likely resign themselves to the inevitable.
This has prompted the news that the German side are scouting alternatives, with news that this includes Villa’s loan striker Tammy Abraham.
Abraham is hot property, with 22 goals already during the campaign so far.
The 21 year old will likely have no shortage of offers for his services at the end of his loan and faces a genuine dilemma as to what path his future career takes.
When the current loan expires he can of course return to his parent club Chelsea. The former Premier and European champions are now subject to a transfer ban, opening the door to a real opportunity of breaking into the first team at Stamford Bridge.
Beyond this, Tammy will almost reasonably face interest from a wide range of suitors, although his rejection of Wolves suggests his ambitions lie at a bigger football club.
If Villa are to have any hope of securing his services permanently, promotion is an obvious necessity. It would then be up to the clubs hierarchy to convince Abraham that his aspirations can be fulfilled at Villa Park, whilst parent club Chelsea monitor his progress and interested parties such as RB Leipzig circle.
