We haven’t been accustomed to feeling disappointed lately. We’ve been spoiled, after all. However, there is a sense that this result might come back to bite us later in the domestic calendar. Despite trailing to an early goal, Villa levelled through Rogers and got in front courtesy of a Watkins header just after the half-hour mark. Uncharacteristically Emery’s side surrendered this advantage and with it the prospect of any away win that would have sent Villa top.

REFLECTION
An away point is a good point, right? This feels awfully like a missed opportunity, and it could haunt our points tally later in the campaign. Last season there simply weren’t the number of sides challenging for the top four, whereas this season, it feels as though at least six/seven sides are in contention. Ipswich were more than deserving of their point, but for Emery and Villa, this will surely sting. Up next? The small matter of Bayern Munich at Villa Park in The Champions League.
PRESS PACK
Delap charged in behind and, turning Diego Carlos inside out with a subtle stepover, rifled a shot across Martínez and in at the far post.
GUARDIAN
Villa will rue squandering the lead and control of the match and the pace of their breathless season will continue on Wednesday with the Champions League visit of Bayern Munich.
