VILLA V BORO

Villa’s reward for overcoming Colchester (2-1) in terrible conditions and battering Wigan (4-1) is a decidedly winnable home tie with Middlesbrough.

In the latest farcical, non-televised draw of the Carabao Calamity Cup:

  • The draw was later than advertised [4:15am GMT], not kicking off with a presentation in Beijing until 4:30am.
  • Fixtures were released on Twitter using pre-made graphics from 4:36am [GMT].
  • This compounded two previous farcical draws for Rounds 1 & 2, the latest described as “beset by problems” in The Guardian.

3rd ROUND DETAILS

  • [Updated 16:00pm] Tie to take place Tuesday 19th September with a 7:45pm kick off.
  • Villa scheduled to face Barnsley on Saturday 16th September (away).
  • Villa face Boro at Villa Park just a week prior (12th September)
  • Old boys:  Assuming there is no further movement in the transfer market, we could see the return of Rudy Gestede, Adama Traore & Stewart Downing.  Albert Adomah will also face off against his former employers.
  • 7 Premier League clubs join at this stage of the competition.
