Welcome to Sunday folks and a there can be no denying this afternoon could go one of two ways.
Villa will either do the unlikely and pull off a miracle at Anfield, or, it could be a very long afternoon indeed, trying to keep the Premier League Champions at bay.
We’ve compiled a detailed stat and fact pack ahead of us facing off a Liverpool – you can find that here.
You can also find the very latest injury updates ahead of kick off here.
The simple fact is that Villa’s defence, with only Norwich’s worse, must be at its very best against Liverpool’s strike force.
Much will depend upon whether Dean Smith attempts to contain Liverpool and working out who amongst our injury fit defence is up to the task. This includes ‘keeper Orjan Nyland, who has made high profile mistakes since the leagues restart.
Villa also have decisions to make about how we might try to hurt Liverpool.
The midfield remains underwhelming in terms of creativity, whilst our preference to operate with a lone striker (apart from against Wolves and very late at Newcastle) has done little to raise our threat level.
We must however remain optimistic, Liverpool are only human and we saw in their midweek thumping (4-0) against Manchester City that they were not as focused.
The reality of our situation, with just 6 games remaining, is that we need to win football games to save ourselves from relegation.
Villa are going to have to find these urgently needed wins in the unlikeliest of places. Where better than at Anfield and why not now?
