The 21 year old Irish youth international has joined up with Stevenage for the remainder of the season.
After making his debut in Villa’s disastrous relegation campaign, Toner’s brief appearances stood in contrast to big money flops in the same role.
Since then his chances have been all out on loan, featuring at Bradford & Walsall. Â His stay in the Black Country included 16 first team appearances, but The Villa Underground’s spies weren’t overly impressed with his overall quality. Â Still, what do they know about football at The Banks’?
Toner’s temporary home at Stevenage, currently 8th in League 2, are also the club currently embroiled in a scandal concerning the searching of female supporters’ bras…
ROBERT SNODGRASS
Villa remain in the driving seat to sign Snodgrass, assuming that the hurdle of wages can be negotiated.
With a number of Championship clubs reported to be keeping a watching brief, Bruce’s familiarity with a player he managed whilst in charge of Hull gives Villa the advantage.
However, with the £10m attacking midfielder having a weekly wage in the region of £50,000, West Ham will presumably be wanting Villa to subsidise a significant portion before any deal is agreed.
On Snodgrass Bruce is quoted:
We’ve had the conversations. But it’s not just a done deal yet.
He will add that bit of sparkle, if you like, up front.
He can play in any position across the front line and is a very good player, let’s hope we can do something.
He’s got all of the stuff you talk about, experience, quality, in abundance. He’s been there, done it and got the t-shirt.
It hasn’t quite worked out for him at West Ham. We’re trying our best to get it over the line but it hasn’t quite happened yet.
JACK WILSHERE
As is the case during transfer windows, the merest snippet from a quote can be fleshed out into pages and pages of “in the know” rumour.
The latest extremely remote link is to Arsenal’s 25 year old injury-prone midfielder.
Responding to a loaded press conference question, Bruce responded:
The Jack Wilshere one – hey, who wouldn’t want Jack Wilshere? But I don’t know whether we’re capable of landing him and let’s not forget he’s only 25.
And that’s your lot!

If we’re going to get this over the line why are we faffing about just get on and get it done, regarding the Wilshire thing it’s a nice idea but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. I just hope if we do sign Snodgrass that he doesn’t replace Green or any of our younger players who are bedding in very nicely.
